Cherry (Prunus avium) is a deciduous tree belonging to the genus Prunus.
It is native to Europe, Northern Africa and Western Asia. Cherry is a drupe and contains one seed.
The fruit is low in sodium and high in calcium, phosphorus and potassium. It contains 13% sugars and provides instant energy. Fair amounts of vitamin c is present.

Except for the ripe cherry fruit all other parts of the tree including leaves and flowers are slightly toxic.
