Nutrition, Health & Wellness
Mental health is an important, essential and integral constituent of health.
The WHO definition states: "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
Hence on the basis of the above definition, we can redefine mental health as a state of complete psychological well-being and not merely the absence of psychological disabilities or disorders.
WHO definition
The WHO defines as "a being of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community".
Emotional wellness is not only the foundation for individual well-being but also foundation for the effective functioning of a community.
Psychological wellness is a positive attribute which contributes to emotional well-being, creativity and capacity to take on the challenges of life.
At any point of time, wellness of a person's mind is determined by many biological, psychological and social factors.
Persistent stress and socio-economic pressures affect the emotional well-being of individuals and communities.
Hence its definition is more than the mere absence of a mental illness or disorder.
Education, culture, physical health and society can have great impact on the mind and health of a person.
